Applications of ChuJi Quan and Push Hands
from Tian Shan Pai 天山派
Sunday, April 17, 2016

Presented by GrandMaster Willy Lin

Willy Lin

ChuJi Quan is also known as Primary Fist or 24 Beat. Although it is the beginner form of Tian Shan Pai, it is not a simple form. To be complete, the Chinese believe a martial art must contain elements of Da, Ti, Shuai, and Na (hitting, kicking, throwing and grappling/locking). Primary Fist expresses all of these elements in both simple and sophisticated ways. Join us as Grandmaster Lin takes us through many of the applications of this important form.

Tian Shan Pai also incorporates elements of tai chi. The sensitivity, balance and body structure developed by tai chi push hands training are important for developing good gong fu.

Join us for an afternoon of training with Grandmaster Lin, one of the most pre-eminent martial artists of our time. In 1957, he became a student of Wang Jyue Jen, the person who brought Tian Shan Pai Kung Fu from China to Taiwan. In 1962, he was invited to receive special training and afterwards became a disciple of Wang Jyue Jen. For the next 6 years, he served as the head instructor of the school in Taiwan. In 1971, Grandmaster Lin opened his first school in the USA. He brought Tian Shan Pai from Taiwan to the USA just as his teacher had brought it from China to Taiwan.

Sunday, April 17, 2016, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm - Applications from ChuJi Quan
Even if you know the two-preson fighting set of ChuJi Quan, you won't have seen all of the applications of the movements. Join us as we explore the movements of the form and the meaning behind them.

Sunday, April 17, 2016, from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm - Tui Shou (Push Hands)
Push Hands practice helps students gain an understanding of leverage, reflex, sensitivity, timing, coordination and positioning. You learn to avoid, neutralize and redirect the incoming forces of your opponent’s attack while also learning to generate, coordinate and deliver power to them.

Tai Chi - Push Hand skills are very important in gaining a deeper understanding of Tai Chi and taking your practice to a higher level. Many of the applications hidden in the movement of forms practice are based on Qinna. The Push Hands practice will help you improve your balance, stability, footwork and posture while demonstrating the importance of these attributes.

Other Martial Arts - Useful to any martial artist wanting to become more effective when fighting in close range, Push Hands is invaluable for giving you practical techniques that you can apply in a variety of situations. You will learn pricinples that will help improve your skill as a martial artist no matter what style you study.
